Interview: Caroline Reitzel, pharmacist
Caroline Reitzel explains her daily life and her point of view on certain topics as a pharmacist.
Why did you choose to become a pharmacist?
I have always been interested in various care-related areas, such as science and humanity. Pharmacy represents the convergence point of these fields. That’s why I chose this path at university.
Since you started practicing, do you think the role of the profession has evolved?
Completely, it is no longer the same. We have gone from the status of scientists and drug manufacturers to that of care providers. With the requirements related to this evolution, continuing education has become essential.
Today, this profession requires keeping knowledge up to date in logistics, science, marketing, clinical... It is truly a profession that requires versatility.
What are the challenges that pharmacists face today?
The big challenge now is to be recognized as care providers among the political and economic actors in health. As such, we contribute to reducing healthcare costs.
As a care provider, do you also recommend visiting the pharmacy without a prescription?
Yes, because we are the open health gateway without an appointment, with the appropriate medical skills to ensure initial patient care. This notably helps to relieve hospital emergencies.
Many non-acute health problems can be taken care of in the pharmacy. If necessary, the pharmacist can also refer people to other healthcare professionals.
On this subject, is it necessary to have a health problem to go to the pharmacy?
No, of course not. We also advise healthy people to stay that way as long as possible. Health prevention and everything related to anti-aging medicine, for example, are developing areas of expertise.
What is the distribution of activity in the pharmacy between prescription and non-prescription drugs?
On average, 80% of pharmacy activity concerns prescription drugs. The rest concerns advice on integrative medicine (phytology, aromatherapy, homeopathy, etc.) and wellness products.
People increasingly value feeling good, both in their body and in their mind. Being fit during the day, resisting stress, improving sleep quality are very present concerns nowadays. And it is expected that pharmacists propose quick and effective solutions.
Health prevention and everything related to anti-aging medicine, for example, are developing areas of expertise.
Particularly in the field of skincare, is recommending products delicate?
It is important to understand each person’s specific needs. Does this concern anti-aging, acne, etc. ? If you recommend a product without previously questioning the client, it is possible that the latter will buy it but not be satisfied.
Then, it is important to understand the type of consumer we are dealing with. Do they favor layering on their skin (Korean method), natural over everything else, do-it-yourself, or technology that allows for simplicity and effectiveness?
What is your affinity with our anti-aging serum ?
After closely following the serum’s arrival on the market, I had the opportunity to try it.
As a pharmacist, my bathroom shelves are full of products offered to try that remain half-full.
This time, I was surprised to finish The Age Tech Serum to the last drop!
The price of The Age Tech Serum can sometimes be a hindrance. What do you think about it?
Price can be a hindrance if the product doesn’t meet our expectations. The Age Tech Serum is multifunctional; it can be applied on both the eye contour and the face. Given the concentration of active ingredients in the serum formula, I would even say that it could be sold at a higher price.
This time, I was surprised to finish The Age Tech Serum to the last drop!
In your opinion, does The Age Tech Serum make it easier to recommend anti-aging care?
Previously, I worked in a pharmacy that specializing in wellness care, and we searched for quality niche brands. Unfortunately, when bought by larger groups, some of these brands changed the formulas by diluting them.
What makes our recommendations easier is the trust we have in the companies we work with.
With a brand like The Age Tech, we can say, “You won’t regret it” to our customers. For us, the essential thing is that our customers have confidence in their pharmacist and want to come back.
In conclusion, after a long day helping your clients in the pharmacy, what do you do to take care of yourself?
I like to meet up with friends and enjoy a drink. Live in the present moment!
